Dr. Ennis and Colleagues Publish Article Discussing Complementary Care Practice-Based Research Network (CC-PBRN) in Complementary Therapies in Medicine

The Complementary Care Practice-Based Research Network (CC-PBRN), spearheaded by Dr. Nicole Ennis, has laid a strong foundation for the recruitment infrastructure necessary to study medical marijuana in the state of Florida.
The CC-PBRN, which was founded through an academic-industry partnership, has emerged as a statewide resource for patient-reported outcomes (PRO) research in medical marijuana, serving as a centralized repository that houses electronic health records (EHR) from Medical Marijuana Treatment Clinics of Florida (MMTC), a private medical cannabis health system serving North, Central, and South Florida. Through this partnership, Dr. Ennis and the network have created a de-identified database for analyses that support hypothesis generation and study feasibility estimation, and they are well-poised to facilitate recruitment into future research studies, including observational studies and clinical trials.

In a recent article published in the journal Complementary Therapies in Medicine, Dr. Ennis, along with co-authors Dr. Cameron Vance (MMTC) and Russell Bradbury (FSU), discussed the genesis of the network, which is the first of its kind in the state of Florida, and provided cross-sectional descriptive analyses of the CC-PBRN’s currently active patients, totaling over 43,800 across 24 clinics.
