Eugene M. Dunne traveled to Phoenix, Arizona to present at the 77th Annual meeting of the College on Problems of Drug Dependence. He presented research on homelessness in Alachua county. Specifically, his study found that homeless male veterans were more likely than homeless non-veterans to report current substance use and mental health problems. The findings also suggest that homeless veterans are more likely to seek health care at emergency departments, which may serve as prime opportunities to refer these patients to appropriate treatment centers or specialty clinics. The full manuscript for this study was recently accepted for publication in the American Journal of Addiction. Collaborators on this project included fellow lab members Larry Burrell and Allyson Diggins and mentor Dr. Nicole Ennis.
