iRace, Substance Use

Eugene Dunne’s study published

Eugene Dunne, a third-year graduate student in the iRACE lab, recently published a study in Addictive Behaviors that found earlier ages of substance use initiation among adult drug users with a history of ADHD.  Those with a history of ADHD used cigarettes, alcohol, and marijuana approximately 1.5 years earlier and began injecting cocaine 2 years earlier than adult drug users with no history of ADHD.  This study lends support for earlier substance abuse prevention efforts for adolescents with ADHD.  Contributing to this study were co-authors Lauren Hearn, a third year doctoral student in the iRACE lab, along with Jonathan Rose and Dr. William Latimer.
